Howdy folks! It's time yet again for another edition of Vintage 101! This week, we're wrapping up our review of the Secrets of Strixhaven set by examining the remaining interesting cards now that we have the full spoiler. Additionally, we will recap the recent MTGO events and highlight a few Challenges from last week.

Secret Book Club#

We previously discussed a few Secrets of Strixhaven cards, but with the complete spoiler available, it's worth revisiting what could be playable. While there aren't many standout cards, some intriguing possibilities exist, particularly with Displacer Kitten. For instance, Displacer Kitten and Blazing Firesinger can create infinite red mana using Seething Song. Although this combo may not be competitive, it opens up creative brewing opportunities.

Weekly MTGO Recap#

This week was relatively quiet as the first Premier Play season concluded, and Vintage is transitioning out of being a Premier Play format for Season Two. The player base remains solid, but new players are not flocking to the format, leading to a familiar crowd in events.

Here are the events from the past week:

  • Vintage Challenge 32 (4/9/2026): 36 players
  • Vintage Challenge 32 (4/10/2026): 44 players
  • Vintage Challenge 32 (4/11/2026): 48 players
  • Vintage Challenge 32 (4/12/2026): 32 players

The overall participation saw a decline, with 159 deck entries compared to the previous week's 209. Notably, Raker Shops dominated the metagame, slightly edging out Lurrus decks. However, card-ref:Dredge performed better with a 52% non-mirror win rate, capitalizing on opponents lacking graveyard hate.

Esper Lurrus and Jewel Shops also maintained a presence, with the latter achieving a 63.4% non-mirror win rate. Interestingly, Initiative made a comeback into the Top 5 decks, showcasing the format's dynamic nature.

Vintage Challenge Highlights#

The first Challenge event featured 44 players, where card-ref:Dredge took first place, followed closely by Raker Shops. The second Challenge had 48 players, with Dimir Lurrus winning the event, showcasing a straightforward list that included Seal of Removal and multiple Mindbreak Trap.

Conclusion#

Vintage continues to exhibit a vibrant metagame, with various decks rotating in and out of favor. The format is stable and fun, embodying a rock-paper-scissors dynamic. Are you enjoying Vintage currently? Let us know your thoughts!
