Maximizing the Silverquill Influence Precon: Auras Over Politics

Explore how to upgrade the Silverquill Influence precon by focusing on Auras to enhance synergy and power with your commander, [[Killian, Decisive Mentor]].

Secrets of Strixhaven introduces five new Commander precons, and today we focus on the Silverquill Influence deck, a White/Black Aura Politics precon. The goal is to manipulate opponents into attacking each other using Auras. This deck employs various Auras to enchant both your creatures and your opponents' creatures, forcing them to attack each other with cards like Coercive Impetus. Additional support comes from cards like Combat Calligrapher and Herald of Amity.

The stock list features a strong theme around Auras and Politics, with 22 Aura cards and 15 "don't attack me" cards. However, only 8 cards effectively merge these two themes, which presents a challenge for upgrades. While the precon is solid, the lack of cards that blend Auras and Politics limits the upgrade potential without changing the deck's identity.

The standout card is Killian, Decisive Mentor, which serves as a powerful draw engine and goad mechanic. This card can significantly enhance the deck's performance, making it a popular choice among players. The precon also includes notable reprints like Ghostly Prison and Breena, the Demagogue, adding to its strength.

To upgrade the deck effectively, I recommend focusing solely on Auras to maximize synergy with Killian, Decisive Mentor. This involves cutting non-Aura Political cards and adding more Auras and Aura payoffs. Here’s a list of suggested additions and cuts to streamline the deck:

By focusing on Auras, you can enhance the overall power of the Silverquill Influence precon while maintaining a cohesive strategy that leverages the strengths of your commander. This approach allows for an upgraded deck that still feels true to its original design while maximizing its potential in gameplay.
