Today we’re gonna mill our opponent with… Elves?

Gameplan#

With Lorwyn Eclipsed hitting the formats, we’ve seen a bunch of cards making an impact in various decks. Today we’re gonna build around its most popular commander in historic, Maralen, Fae Ascendant. It exiles cards from our opponent’s deck and allows us to cast them for free. While this is fun and all, we’re looking to overkill and just exile the opponent’s entire library in one shot.

The way we do this is casting Doppelgang in Maralen and some of our elves. As soon as X=3, we will create three Maralens and 6 other elves. Even though we will sacrifice the Maralens to the legend rule, they will all see each other and all the elves entering the battlefield. That means we’ll exile well over 60 cards from our opponent’s library, completely milling them out in the process.

Now to cast a Doppelgang for X=3 we’ll need a bunch of mana. Luckily, Elves are the perfect creature type to do just that. Besides the classic Llanowar Elves and Elvish Mystic, we also play Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary, Priest of Titania and Elvish Archdruid that all tap for absurd amounts of mana the longer the game goes.

The glue that holds this deck together is another Lorwyn card in Formidable Speaker. Not only does it tutor for Maralen, or the occasional Craterhoof Behemoth, it also untaps out mana elves, ramping us into often way bigger Doppelgangs than necessary.

Additionally, we run Green Sun's Zenith and Finale of Devastation as tutors. This allows us to add a few one-offs like Regal Force for card draw, Sylvan Ranger for mana fixing, and Disciple of Freyalise to tutor with Formidable Speaker to hit our land drops.

In case you’re wondering why we bring a sideboard to best of one. While chances are low, we got some artifacts in case we copy an opponent’s Karn, the Great Creator.

Wrap up

This deck is incredibly fun to play on the fact alone that Doppelgang is such a fun card. As seen in the video, it often allows us to win with our opponent’s deck, making every matchup extra unique.
If you already have the cards, this is a great deck to take for a spin. While it isn’t Tier 1 or anything, it has some crazy nut draws that feel unfair if the opponent doesn’t stop us in time.
